$1,000 tip ginger man: Man Gets Massive Tip, Goes To Work Next Day

Couple Tip Waiter $1,000 at Albany’s The Ginger Man Restaurant

Albany, New York – Apparently, a well-to-do couple were celebrating a birthday meal at the upscale restaurant and decided to share the love in grand style by tipping the water a full stack IE one-thousand dollars.

According to Ginger Man manager Julie Byron, at the end of the meal the man’s wife approached Shafts and said something to the effect of, “Something insane is about to happen to you, just take it and do something good.”

The tip was placed on a meal tab that totaled $114.00.

The waiter, Michael Shafts, was taken by their generosity and uploaded a copy of the receipt to the web where it has gone viral. Shafts actually got a heads up on the tip by the wife as she was leaving the venue. She quietly told him that her him that her husband had placed something she described as “special” for him at the table. He obviously expected a good tip, but definitely not this good a tip.

Shafts says he couldn’t have given the table better service even if he’d known there was a $1,000 tip coming. ” He brought a very good 47-year-old bottle of wine with him, and I handled it well, but I always try to give excellent service and to be a little different. I look young, so maybe people don’t expect it, but I always try to give the best service to all of my customers.

Shaft actually puts in occasional shifts at the restaurant to supplement his income as many other Americans do these days. His regular employment is at a local credit union. It is reported that the generous couple are known to take in a meal at the restaurant, but are by no means regulars. It turns out his benefactor was celebrating his 47th birthday and even brought with him a bottle of 47-year-old wine to toast the occasion. The man penned down a note on the receipt saying that the $1,000 tip was something he was really doing for himself as a birthday gift. He then urged the waiter to “pay it forward”.

Shaft was quite modest and while he thanked his benefactor, he explained it was entirely too much. It was to no avail as the man insisted that Shaft accept the tip. The restaurant owner admitted that the good fortune could not have come to a kinder person. Shaft followed protocol and split the tip keeping 50% or $500 for himself and sharing with rest with other staff.
