ohio wedding day crash :Groom Killed in Accident Just Hours after Ceremony
What was by all accounts a fairytale wedding ended in tragedy Sunday when the happy couple was involved in a car accident that left the groom dead and the bride in critical condition. Ohio newlyweds, Andrew Bloomfield and Ruth Driskill Bloomfield, had just said their vows some three hours earlier, when tragedy struck.
The couple along with friends Timothy Tebbe and Elizabeth Shelton left the reception to head to Tebbe’s house and were on their way back to the party, when Tebbe, the driver of the 2014 Dodge Ram lost control of the vehicle. The pickup truck veered off to the side of the road, hit an embankment, and flipped several time, hitting a telephone pole along the way, and came to a stop in a nearby cornfield. The accident took place in Antrim Township, Wyandot County, at around 4:49pm.
Both Bloomfield, the groom, and Shelton, a passenger in the pickup truck, were ejected from the Dodge Ram. Shelton was pronounced dead at the scene by Wyandot County coroner, and Bloomfield as airlifted to a nearby hospital, but was later pronounced dead. The bride, Driskill-Bloomfield, and driver of the vehicle Tebbe, had to be extracted from the vehicle. Driskill-Bloomfield was transported to a hospital in Lima, and Tebbe was taken to a medical center in Toledo. Both are said to still be listed in critical condition.
The local sheriff’s office has commented that they do not believe that the passengers in the Dodge Ram had their seat belts on at the time of the crash. It is unclear why the foursome left the reception to go back to Tebbe’s house. However, police are stating the alcohol may have been a factor in the accident, due to statements made by guests waiting at the wedding reception. An investigation is underway.
