Giant Gold Nugget Found In California
The nugget is scheduled to be sold in San Francisco at the annual Fall Antiques Show. Its expected initial bid has been set at $350,000 but, as stated above, it may well bring in up to $100,000 more when it finally sells.
Weighing in at a massive 6.07 pounds, the miraculous object has been christened the “Butte Nugget”. This nickname was earned due to the nugget being discovered in Butte County, California. The lucky finder of this amazingly lucrative object has not been identified, but the sale of the nugget will be handled by Don Kagin, who is president of Kagin’s Inc., a firm that normally handles rare and valuable gold coins.
Kagin has been the victim of bogus finds in the recent past. Therefore, according to a statement he gave to the San Francisco Chronicle, he took special measures and precautions to avoid being taken in by the anonymous finder of the nugget. Kagin had this to say on the matter: “This one’s for real. Obviously we don’t want to get hoodwinked again, so we have checked pretty thoroughly into it.”
Authenticating the nugget was an arduous task that Kagin assigned to his trusted assistant, David McCarthy. After being blindfolded, McCarthy was led to the area where the nugget was first discovered. He made scientific comparisons of the object against the area where he was told it had been found, and was thus able to authenticate the find. Thus, the nugget is up for grabs in San Francisco.
