Warren Buffett, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, is fit as a fiddle at the age of 84 and he attributes his continuing good health to a strange dietary habit.
Buffett, one of the world’s foremost investors and investment gurus, recently admitted that he consumes at least five 12-ounce servings of the Coca-Cola soft drink every day. In fact, Buffett jokes that his constitution is one-fourth Coke, explaining that 25% of his daily diet of 2700 calories are the 60 ounces of the world’s most popular soft drink he drinks.
“If I eat 2,700 calories a day, a quarter of that is Coca-Cola,” he said. “I drink at least five 12-ounce servings. I do it every day.”
Buffett confirmed that he consumes three cans of Coke during the day, along with two cans every evening. Through Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett owns about 9% of the Coca-Cola company, represented by about %16 billion in stock. When he’s busy at his work desk at Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway, regular Coke is his beverage of choice. Buffett switches to drinking Cherry Coke when relaxing at home. His idea of a delicious breakfast is to consume a can of Coke accompanied by a hearty portion of Potato Stix, a snack made by the UTZ company of Pennsylvania. On some mornings, he may treat himself to a big bowl of chocolate chip ice cream, accompanied by his favorite Coke soda. Buffett recently inquired about acquiring the UTZ company since he likes their potato-based snack product so much.
When asked about his high-salt, high-sugar dietary choices, Buffett reports that he checked insurance actuarial tables and discovered that the lowest death rate shown on those tables were among six-year-olds. So Buffett says it seemed to make perfect sense to him to start eating like a six-year-old in order to avoid the inevitable. He believes that his five Coke a day habit is extremely safe, considering that he feels happy and healthy, experiencing no major health issues.
