According to reports, a92-year-old woman from Germany, who was declared dead, woke up hours later in a refrigerated room in a funeral home.

German prosecutors have charged the doctor who allegedly pronounced the seriously ill woman dead in March, with negligent and bodily harm today.

The 53-year-old doctor, whose name hasn’t been released in line with privacy regulations, is said to have declared her dead after a carer found her without a pulse and not breathing at a retirement home.

That evening, a worker at the funeral home where she’d been taken heard a scream from the refrigeration room and discovered the woman alive, reports Inquisitr.

Essen prosecutor Birgit Juegens said the woman died two days later in a hospital from heart disease unrelated to the incident.

The doctor could face anything from a fine to a prison sentence if convicted, Juegens said.

In July 2011, in an unrelated case, a 92-year-old woman was declared dead by the United States Department of Treasury. As a result, her checking and money market accounts were completely drained of nearly $17,000.
