Missing marathon runner
According to an NYPD spokes person, an Italian runner is missing after crossing the finish line of the New York City Marathon on Sunday.
Gianclaudio P. Marengo, 30, was last seen in Central Park at about 3 p.m. Sunday. He was wearing bib no. 23781.
The spokesman tells dbTechno that Marengo, who only speaks Italian, has a mental disability, but could not provide any information on the nature of the disability.
He was staying with a group of runners at the Sleep Inn Hotel in Long Island City, Queens. Those runners reported him missing to the Italian consulate, who then alerted the NYPD.
An unofficial total of 50,229 entrants started the 45th running of the NYC Marathon, pounding 26.2 miles of pavement through the five boroughs.
The race’s organizers, New York Road Runners, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
