Manhattan crane collapse
New York City’s fire department says one person is dead and two others are seriously injured following a crane collapse in Lower Manhattan.
The accident was reported around 8:25 a.m. ET Friday in the Tribeca neighbourhood. The crane landed across several parked cars, smashing their roofs.
The collapsed metal lattice landed across an intersection and stretched much of a block.
A witness who works nearby said he saw onlookers trying to help a person who was trapped in a car. Robert Harold said he also saw a person lying motionless in the street.
It is feared that among the injured two are suffering critical injuries.
A man at the scene took a video of the scene.
Several images from the scene showed a row of cars being smashed.
He added: “One person dead, sucks.”
Further details about the Manhattan crane collapse were not immediately known.
