Girl barred from prom
A Pennsylvania high school student barred from attending prom at her Catholic high school because she wore a suit rather than a dress has been invited to another school’s prom.
According to the Associated Press, Aniya said she was thrown out of the prom because she defied a last-minute email saying girls must wear dresses. She wore a suit. The school, in Harrisburg, said the dress code, including that girls must wear dresses, was sent out months ago, according to the AP.
William Penn Senior High School Principal Brandon Carter says he invited Aniya Wolf to the May 21 event because “We do embrace all.” Another teacher says Wolf accepted.
Aniya said she’s a lesbian who has worn a shirt and pants to school all three years she has attended.
