A-List actor Colin Firth was planning to have a large solar panel installed onto the roof of his London home in an attempt to live a greener lifestyle. Unfortunately, things didn’t go the highly-acclaimed entertainer’s way.
The inspector that was sent to Firth’s home to check things out denied the actor permission to commence with the eco-friendly project. His reasoning was that because Firth’s home belonged to a historic district and conservation area, the installation would destroy the authenticity and historic value of the home and surrounding area. The benefits to going forward with the install were determined to be less valuable than the potential drawbacks. It was believed that the solar panel would not significantly put out more energy than other widely available renewable forms.
The rejection of the project appeal really hurt Firth as his wife is an avid environmentalist and promoter of green living. He could not be reached for comments. Well, it seems that Firth lost the battle but might win the war since he probably wouldn’t have a problem purchasing another home in a less restricted neighborhood to continue the project.
