Teen Mom Amber Portwood Is Heading To The Clink
According to TMZ, “Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood is heading to prison.
The gossip site says the reality star could go away for up to five years, after giving up on a drug rehab program, gossip website TMZ reports.
Madison County, Indiana, Circuit Judge David Happe ruled Tuesday that Portwood must serve the prison time he imposed earlier this year when she pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge. She had avoided prison with a plea deal that included drug rehab, but she dropped out of the program last month.
Portwood, 22, was arrested on May 24 for violating her drug court probation requirements by failing a urine test and then lying about it, Prosecuting Attorney Rodney Cummings said.
“The judge said he would refer Amber to the Indiana Department of Corrections therapeutic community program — an incarceration-based treatment program,” TMZ reports.
Prison-based drug treatment programs, which “focus on treating addiction as well as addressing criminal thinking,” are available in at least four Indiana prisons. “Preparing offenders for successful and sober re-entry into the community is the primary goal,” according to the Indiana Department of Corrections’ website.
According to E! News, Portwood could get credit for “good time” if she behaves in prison.
The reality TV star is no stranger to legal troubles – in 2010, she faced felony charges for domestic violence after allegedly attacking her ex-fiance Gary Shirley. She was placed on two years’ probation and had a two-year jail term suspended, but she violated the terms of her release when she was arrested in December.
