Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have separated after 14 years together, according to Entertainment Tonight.

The couple “have amicably separated,” said the representative of the actor in a statement to the publication. “Please respect his privacy, and more importantly, the privacy of their children,” he added.

In May, the “Dark Shadows” actor addressed rumors that he and Paradis were on the rocks.

“The rumors are not true. They are absolutely not true,” Depp said in a red carpet interview at the London premiere of “Dark Shadows,” according to the U.K.’s The Sun. “No matter what I say about this, people believe the opposite … I can’t say enough about it not being over.”

In January, People magazine reported that the artist and model had started to lead separate lives. Depp, 49, and Paradis, 39, parents of Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, 9, had not appeared together on a red carpet for over eighteen months.

The couple who spent years living in France, isolated from the bustle of Hollywood, is now much of his time in Los Angeles but every man for himself.

Apparently the reason behind the end of their life together were the continuous professional commitments , especially Depp, who in recent years has released several films each year. Paradis, meanwhile, has been more focused on fashion and is the face of numerous advertising campaigns.

The couple began their relationship in 1998 but were never married.

Paradis, in a recent interview with Elle magazine, explained the reasons.

“I love the romance of ‘let’s get married,’ but then, when you have it so perfect … I mean, I’m more married than anybody can be – we have two kids. Maybe one day, but it’s something I can really do without,” the actress once told Elle magazine.
