ESPN Magazine’s 2012 Body Issue
For the past few years ESPN Magazine has published the ESPN Body Issue which features professional athletes sans clothing.
“Each year, we stop to admire the vast potential of the human form. To unapologetically stand in awe of the athletes who’ve pushed their physiques to profound frontiers. To imagine how it would feel to inhabit those bodies, to leap and punch and throw like a god. To … well, gawk. So go ahead; join us.”
The trend continues for 2012 and the newest edition will have 27 athletes and features several women from the Olympic volleyball team.
The professional athletes featured in this year’s edition include NBA star Tyson Chandler, NFL players Rob Gronkowski and Maurice Jones-Drew. Brad Richards of the NHL and Jose Bautista of the MLB are also featured.
Women athletes include track star Carmilla Jeter, tennis player Daniela Hantuchova, and LPGA star Suzann Pettersen.
As well as, seven members of the USA Olympic Volleyball Team.
“I feel sexy when I am surfing in my bikini, which is rare because I am usually in a wet suit on a big wave, so when I get the chance to, it feels great,” said Gabeira who is a five-time Billabong XXl Award winner.
For the New York Knick’s center, Tyson Chandler, ‘The Body Issue’ gives people a chance to see what a pro athlete really looks like after years of hard work.
“I think a lot of people are curious about it,’ added Chandler.
“I wanted people to look at my body and see why I’m able to do the things I do on the court.
“Also, it’s a very artistic shoot, and seeing that in past issues made me want to do it.”
Maya Gabeira said surfing nude is hard on the boobs.
“I actually have surfed nude. I wouldn’t really do it normally because it kinda hurts your boobs…. I feel sexy when I am surfing in my bikini, which is rare because I am usually in a wet suit on a big wave, so when I get the chance to, it feels great.”
