Director Tony Scott Jumps To His Death
Tony Scott, a Hollywood director and producer best known for “Top Gun” committed suicide on Sunday.
“I can confirm that Tony Scott has passed away. The family asks that their privacy is respected at this time,” Scott’s spokesman, Simon Halls, said in a statement.
While driving over the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro he parked his car and scaled the 9 foot security fence where he jumped and took his own life.
Los Angeles Port Police were notified by passing motorists who witnessed the suicide.
His body was soon thereafter pulled from the water. Upon inspection of his Toyota Prius still parked on the bridge, officers found a list of contacts which led to his office and a suicide note.
“There’s nothing to indicate it is anything else at this time,” said Lt. Joe Bale of the coroner’s office.
The contents of the note have not been released.
Simon Halls, a publicist who represents the Scott brothers, confirmed the death.
“The family asks for privacy during this time,” Halls said.
