Johansson reportedly earning $20 million for Avengers 2
Scarlett Johansson will become one of the world’s highest paid actresses after landing a $20 million paycheck to reprise her role in the “Avengers 2,” reports the New York Post.
The first “Avengers” was made on a relatively low budget but made a big splash at the box office, leading producers to call for a second installment. Johansson’s turn in the movie was good enough that she was sought for the sequel.
The $20 million payday is unconfirmed, but sources say the number is accurate. The number is nearly unheard of for an actress in a non-starring role, and Johansson will be one of the first ever to earn that much for a film with no lead actor or actress.
Few actresses have ever reached that level of earning, with Julia Roberts famously being the first back in 2000 with “Erin Brokovich.” The pay increase, if true, will be a huge one for Johansson, who reportedly made only $400,000 for her role in the first flick.
The first Avengers flick earned $1.355 billion worldwide, according to TV Film News.
Filming of ’Avengers 2′ will begin toward the latter half of 2013, for release in 2015.
