Academy Award nominee and The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence says that although she has a great body image, in “Hollywood, I’m obese.”

Lawrence, 22, was recently interviewed in the December 2012 issue of Elle magazine, saying that she thinks she is “considered a fat actress” by others in the industry. Lawrence has criticized too-thin actresses, and has said she will “never…starve myself for a part.” She said she does not want young girls to see her in such an emaciated state and think that they want to look like that.

“In Hollywood, I’m obese. I’m considered a fat actress,” said Lawrence. “I’m Val Kilmer in that one picture on the beach.”

Lawrence trained twice a day to prepare for her role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. Yet despite her hard work, she was still criticized for not looking thin enough.

“I’m never going to starve myself for a part. I keep waiting for that one role to come along that scares me enough into dieting, and it just can’t happen. I’m invincible.”

Thankfully, the “Hunger Games” star doesn’t want to be a negative role model for young girls.

“I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner.’ That’s something that I was really conscious of during training, when you’re trying to get your body to look exactly right. I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong, not thin and underfed.”

At the time of the release of the movie in March 2012, a critic wrote that Lawrence could not convincingly play a young woman in a society which was starving its citizens into submission.
