Heidi Klum, her boyfriend Martin Kristen, her son Henry, and two nannies were enjoying an Easter vacation this past week on a beach in Hawaii when tragedy nearly struck – her son and nanny got caught in a riptide.
Klum quickly alerted her boyfriend & bodyguard Martin who sprang into action to get the child and nannies out of the grip of the undertow.
Klum herself remained keenly calm as she too dove into the waves to assist in the rescue.
Photographer’s on-hand caught pictures of the critical moments when their lives hung in the balance. Kristen managed to rescue the boy first and then the two nannies from the dangerous pull while Klum got her son safely to shore and then pulled one of the nannies to safety.
The photograph of the nanny who Klum pulled to shore reveals the look of fear that had fallen on her countenance.
When the rescue mission was accomplished, photographers captured and exhausted Martin on all fours catching his breath. Afterwards, the group lay out in the sun gathering themselves from the experience. Klum then retrieved water for her son and nannies.
She believes he son, a strong swimmer, would have been able to make it out of the rip tide on his own.
Speaking about the incident in a statement to Us Weekly Heidi said: ‘We got pulled into the ocean by a big wave. Of course, as a mother, I was very scared for my child and everyone else in the water.
‘Henry is a strong swimmer and was able to swim back to land. We were able to get everyone out safely.’
She continued: ‘Henry swam out of it. I grabbed him at the shore. The nannies were the ones in much deeper trouble.’
