Atlanta Funeral Services Planned for Chris Kelly

Chris Kelly, who gained musical fame in the 1990s in his hometown of Atlanta as one of the rapper partners in Kriss Kross, will be buried out of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church next Thursday. Although official autopsy results have not been released, his unexpected death at his home last week is likely due to an overdose of drugs. Murray Brothers Funeral Home reports that it will hold a public viewing for the rapper on Wednesday afternoon leading into the evening hours. Performing as “Mac Daddy”, Kelly joined forces with partner Chris Smith who performed as “Daddy Mac” as rapping duo Kris Kross. They made their signature wearing their clothing on backwards.

The Kris Kross song “Jump” became a chart topper on Billboard and helped the young rappers, who were discovered singing at a local mall, to gain platinum status for their first album. Kelly was only 34 years old at the time of his death. Police officials report that after interviewing his mother, it was determined that Kelly had used both cocaine and heroine 24 hours prior to becoming ill. Although he was rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment after being found, he was declared dead upon arrival at the emergency room.
