ABC Axes Five Shows

The ABC network announced the cancellation of several shows on Saturday, most notably the comedy “Happy Endings”. Also axed were “Red Widow”, “How to Live with Your Parents”, “Malibu Country” and “Body of Proof”.

“Happy Endings” attracted a small, but very loyal following during its two year run. Fans of the sitcom, along with some celebrities, took to Twitter to voice their protest over the ending. Actress Elizabeth Banks tweeted, “The cancellation of Happy Endings is criminal. Boo.” A disgruntled fan wrote, “Well, it happened. Happy Endings got canceled. If you didn’t realize how funny that show was, I blame you.” There is a possibility that “Happy Endings” may find a new home on cable with the USA network.

Fans of other ABC series have something to cheer about. The network renewed “Suburgatory”, “Castle”, “The Middle” and “Scandal” along with older favorites “Modern Family” and “Grey’s Anatomy”. “Revenge”, “Once Upon a Time” and “Nashville” are also moving on to sophomore seasons.

New comedies arriving for the 2013-2014 season include “Back in the Game”, “The Goldbergs” and “Super Fun Night”. “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” will be debuting as a spin-off, as will Mind Games”, which will star Christian Slater.
