Abu Dhabi’s Formula Rossa Rollercoaster is World’s Fastest at 240km/hr

For those roller coaster thrill seekers, nothing beats the Formula Rossa ride at Ferrari World in the Arab Emirate Abu Dhabi. The roller coaster is the sixth largest in the world in terms of the track length at 1.4 miles. However, it is the speed of this ride which makes it the world’s fastest.

It reaches a burst speed of 240km/h or 150 mph inside of five seconds using a hydraulic launch.

Now, it should be noted that the top speed is a burst speed. The roller coaster is so fast that riders must wear protective googles the same as skydivers to protect their eyes during terminal velocity. At high speeds, a bug or particle in the air can cause severe eye trauma.

Now, put in perspective, terminal velocity is roughly 195km/h or 122 mph meaning that riders are traveling the Formula Rossa 23% faster than they would free fall to the earth. Now doesn’t that give you an adrenaline rush? The ride took its inspiration from the legendary Italian race car driver known as Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

In fact, before the ride was open to the public in 2010, the Formula One drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa were allowed to test drive the roller coaster.
