32-year-old Canadian actor Ryan Gosling seems to have perfected the skill of being Hollywood’s sexiest man and one class act as well. Recently, the star of the film “The Place Beyond the Pines” revealed that as a young lad in the 1980s, his mother would often read him the story “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein.
He explained to the Metro newspaper: “Another one is a ghostly lady and a skeleton and the other one is the cover of ‘The Giving Tree’ a children’s book my mother used to read to my sister and me – so that one is significant.”
The book tells the story of the relationship between a boy and a tree where the latter gives everything in an attempt to bring happiness to the former. His memories of his mother reading the book to both him and his sister linger with him so much that he has tattooed the book cover on his left arm. Also, a year ago, Gosling surprised the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin by showing up at their charity fund-raiser.
The school had published a “hey girl” meme in the hopes of enticing the dapper star and it apparently worked. Gosling was said to have thrilled students as he posed for pictures with them. He even went so far as to learn to sign both “thank you” and “please” so as to show his courtesy and appreciation to his adoring fans. He even paid for a $1 cotton candy with a $50 bill.
Gosling once told the The Guardian that “A tattoo should never be meaningful, because at a certain point you’re going to hate it, and it might as well make you laugh.” He also explained one of his more puzzling additions, saying, “One of my tattoos is supposed to be a monster’s hand dropping a bloody heart, but I did it myself with a tattoo kit so it looks like a cactus.”
