The last thing Elizabeth Berkley expected to have happen after dancing a perfect 30-point routine with partner Val Chmerkovskiy on “Dancing With the Stars” was to hear the host say that the pair had been eliminated from future competition. Although a saddened Berkley managed to keep her composure when given the bad news on air, she did admit she felt shocked and “sucker punched” because she believed that the duo “got cut short” and had so much more to offer the audience in coming weeks of dance competition.

“I’m sad,” she admitted. “There were more things we wanted to do. But I’m, honestly, beyond grateful for this. … I want to thank everyone, especially Val.” The former “Saved By the Bell actress added, “I’ve learned so much, obviously dance, but (also) growth as a human being and partnership.”

Partner Chmerkovskiy said he was taking the disappointment in stride and looked forward to knowing when he would be working again since dancing is his life. Actress Berkley, who had 14 points more than the other lowest scoring team featuring comedian Bill Engvall, said she was very grateful for the opportunity to dance with Chmerkovskiy because he proved to inspire her in many ways. Berkley admitted that dancing with the likeable professional helped her to rediscover a passion for dancing that she had lost years ago. In addition, she reported that spending time with Chmerkovksy helped her to reconnect to other long-hidden feelings for which she will be forever grateful to her dance instructor.
