Carolina Sepe Dies: Woman in a Coma Dies After Giving Birth

Carolina Sepe Loses Battle for Her Life After Delivering a Baby in a Coma

A long fight for life ended it tragedy on Saturday when Carolina Sepe lost her life. The nightmare began for the Sepe family in Naples, Italy on August 25, 2013. On this day, neighbor Domenico Ashettino went to the Sepe home, very angry with Carolina’s father, Vicenzo Sepe over a car accident. He open fired, and shot and killed Mr. Sepe.

Rather than leaving after he hit is intended target, he continued to open fire on the family. Carolina’s grandmother was killed and her mother and brother were both injured. Carolina, who was 10 weeks pregnant at the time was shot in the head. Her husband, Giampiero Siniscalchi was able to escape with the couple’s young son out a bathroom window.

Doctors were able to keep Carolina on life support for weeks to allow her unborn baby a chance at life. When her vital signs began to weaken, doctors decided that it was time to deliver the baby via Cesarian section. On December 19, 2013, Carolina gave birth to Maria Liliana weighing only 2.4 lbs. Doctors are keeping the baby on life support to ensure her survival.

Carolina’s husband never gave up hope for his wife. He quit his job after she was shot so that he could sit by her side everyday. He made a recording of their young son speaking to her and he played it while she lay in a coma. The second time he played it, he stated that she cried. He was sure that she would be coming back to him.

Unfortunately, that was not the case. Only sixteen days after the baby was born, Carolina passed away. The town where Carolina lived is a very small town. As a show of community support, the mayor of the down has announced that the town will help to provide for baby Maria until she turns 18 years old. A family and a town mourns for Carolina Sepe.
