Carrie Underwood humbly graduates college

Carrie Underwood has had one smash hit after the other and it all started with a decision to drop out of college to enter the American Idol competition in 2005. Her hits include Jesus Take the Wheel, Good Girl and Before He Cheats. She was only a few credits short of earning a degree when she decided to pursue a spot on the American Idol stage. It paid off in a big way for Carrie, and she could have easily forgotten about those few credits that she needed in order to graduate.

Underwood recently returned to college to finish out her coursework so that she could graduate. She received her degree with the rest of the class at Northeastern State University. Approximately 1800 other students walked across the stage to receive their degrees as well. Carrie turned down the opportunity to do an interview with the press because she did not want to take attention away from the other graduates.

Underwood received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in mass communication. The 23-year-old has been married to hockey player Mike Fisher since 2010. They currently reside in Nashville, TN. She was born and raised in Checotah, Oklahoma, but moved to Nashville after winning American Idol. She and her husband also purchased a home in Canada, but that home was recently put on the market. Rumors of marital difficulties flourished recently about Carrie and her husband; however, they have no plans to split as some news outlets have led fans to believe.

Graduating college after finding success like Carrie Underwood’s sends a good message to young girls around the United States. The message is that a good education counts for just as much as any other successes that a woman might have in life. A college education opens up more doors than not having one does.
