When television actress and celebrity Kristen Cavallari wanted to lose weight after the birth of her second child, she chose an old method. A very old method.
Cavallari, who lost 20 pounds two months after the birth of her second son, credits much of her weight loss success to the “Paleo Diet”, which is currently taking Hollywood by storm. The diet, which claims to be patterned aster the diets of ancient people (and is sometimes known as the “Caveman Diet”)does not allow for processed foods, gluten, dairy, or legumes to be consumed while on it. Instead, it emphasizes the consumption of animal proteins and non-starchy vegetables. While celebrities are most excited by the dramatic weight losses that can occur while following this plan, it may have other uses as well. Some research indicates that Paleo Diet followers are less likely to develop certain types of cancer and chronic disease. Some celebrities such as Jack Osbourne are following it as an MS treatment. However, like most diet fads, it’s not without controversy. Some experts worry that the diet’s red meat emphasis increases the risk of some cancers. And others worry that dieters may be depriving themselves of the nutritional benefits of some foods forbidden under the diet.

In Cavallari’s case, she credits the elimination of dairy from her diet for being largely responsible for her dramatic weight loss. An exercise regime begun shortly after the baby’s birth and breast feeding are two other ways she feels she’s lost the post-pregnancy weight. She continues to exercise 4-5 days a week, 45 minutes a day, largely through weight lifting. Cavallari indicated in recent media interviews that she’s already close to her pre-pregnancy weight. And while the Paleo Diet helped her shed those post-baby pounds, it was by no means a temporary thing. Cavallari indicated the diet is part of her normal lifestyle. “I’m a freak about what I put into my mouth, and I never eat toxic chemicals”.
“We eat a ton of veggies, chicken, grass-fed beef, bison and fish. We also love sweet potatoes and brown rice pasta. I either make a smoothie, oatmeal or eggs for breakfast and a salad or turkey sandwich for lunch,” she said. “I have a snack in the afternoon – usually nuts with dried cherries, chips with hummus, or an apple and almond butter. I also love avocados with olive oil and sea salt and I put coconut oil in or on everything.”

We just potty-trained Camden which we’re really excited about! He’s also starting to talk, which is hilarious and a ton of fun. Jax is getting close to holding his head up on his own.
How are the two brothers getting along?
Cam is really cute with Jax. He gives him kisses and holds his hand.

It’s hard to tell right now, but he looks exactly like Camden when Cam was his age.

Yes, We went to dinner for our one-year wedding anniversary on June 8th.
What is one item of clothing you were itching to get into post-pregnancy?
A romper! I couldn’t wait to wear this Stone Cold Fox romper—anything with a waist! In the picture (top photo, right) I don’t have any shoes on because I was running around outside with Camden.
