Jason Statham almost died during filming of Expendables 3
Sly Stallone states that the near death experience occurred while driving a truck that suddenly had its brakes fail. Jason Statham was forced to jump out of the still moving truck, and then jumped off of a sixty foot cliff into the sea. Statham survives the encounter without injury, which is probably the result Statham being a former Olympic level diver.
Sly Stallone was quoted saying that, “Luckily we had taken the doors off before.” This modification allowed for Statham to dive out of the doors of the truck as it went off of the cliff, which probably prevented him from being crushed by the three ton truck as it went into the water. Stallone also mentions that the rest of the cast was lucky that the trucks brakes did not fail while the rest of the crew was on it. This was because they were all wearing heavy costumes that would have prevented them from swimming.
The filming of Expendables 3 has also seen a couple of other injuries to its all-star cast. Sly Stallone suffered a fall during filming, and needed to get a metal plate put into his back as the result of his injuries. Statham has been asked if he has suffered any other injuries during filming, and was quoted saying that he broke a shoe lace during the first scene of filming. The news of Jason Statham’s injury comes long after the filming, and it appears that the cast managed to all make it out of the experience alive and well.
