The public never seems to tire of stories about legendary former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Reelz Channel has announced that actress Katie Holmes will reprise her role as the famous style-setting Jackie O. when their new miniseries, called “The Kennedys: After Camelot” premiers sometime in 2016. Holmes first starred as the raven-haired First Lady in 2011 in “The Kennedys” miniseries that was also shown on Reelz Channel.
Reelz executives were able to lure Holmes to become a part of the new miniseries project about America’s most famous political family by offering her an expanded role. Not only will she act in the production, portraying Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Holmes will also direct one of the four episodes in addition to serving as one of its executive producers. Jon Cassar, who directed all previous Kennedy miniseries installments on Reelz, will be at the helm for the other three miniseries installments. This latest televised dramatization of the Kennedys is based on J. Randy Taraborrelli’s best selling book, “After Camelot: A Personal History of the Kennedy Family 1968 to the Present.”
Reelz CEO Stan Hubbard says he strongly supported the choice of the 35-year old actress to reprise the role of Jackie, calling her perfect for the role and as brave and committed as the real Jackie Onassis. The new miniseries installments will focus on Jackie’s post White House life as she transitions from being an adored political wife and widow to her remarriage to business tycoon Aristotle Onassis. It will also explore her transition into a working woman in New York City’s publishing world after becoming widowed again. There is no word if actors Greg Kinnear and Barry Pepper, who portrayed President John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert in the first miniseries, will appear in flashbacks in the new miniseries.
