Riverside, California – Kevin Judd, age 42, loves Halloween. In fact, he decorated his house with 12,000 lights and conducted a nightly 30 minute tour of the house amid the songs “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. In addition, he has a party for neighborhood children to come dance and enjoy the season. On weekends, he holds three tours of his light display. On opening night of the tour, a crowd numbering in the hundreds lined up to experience the spooky light show. His Halloween celebration has been a thrill for the neighborhood children.
Sadly, it may be that not every home in the neighborhood has children. This is because a number of curmudgeons began phoning the local police department to make complaints about the traffic congestion and noise. Finally, officers said that number of complaints reached the threshold prompting them to act. They have since ordered Judd to shut down his display. The news has been a big disappointment to children. Judd’s next door neighbor Raul De La Torre explained that the show was a thrill for children, but he also can understand why some neighbors were upset.
For his part, Judd is probably the most disappointed of them all. He said that by comparison, parents and they children generate more noise at a sports game than what he did with his show. At this point, he is not sure if he’ll go to such lengths to do this again. However, he later said that he will seek out a city permit to repeat the show next year. He may even rent out a commercial space. By day, you would never guess his house was the site of a synchronized 12,000 light display. However, by nighttime it would transform into a first class Halloween display.
