Misty Upham, known for the movies Frozen River and August: Osage County, was found dead in a ravine October 16th.
Born in Montana, Upham grew up south of Seattle and began acting as a child in a theater group called Red Eagle Soaring. In addition, she began writing and directing when she was just fourteen. Upham’s first movie was Skins in 2002. Her most famous role was that of widow Lila in Frozen River. She cut her previously waist-length hair and gained forty pounds for the part. Not only could she act, but she could also sing and play guitar. She was a featured celebrity writer for Native Vue magazine.
She was last seen October 5, 2014 in Auburn, Washington at her apartment. On October 6th her father called police to report her missing. After searching her apartment, police declared she had left and did not report her as officially missing. Her body was found in a nearby ravine by White River on October 16th. The medical examiner reported blunt force trauma to both her head and torso. Police have yet to find evidence of foul play.
Her final movie was Crawlspace, which is set to be released in 2015.
