Rebel Wilson Lied About Age And Background

This week comedian Rebel Wilson‘s age was the subject of controversy.

It has been revealed that the Australian native is in fact 35.

The Pitch Perfect 2 actress became the center of a media firestorm earlier this week after an Australian tabloid published a report that Wilson had taken liberties with her age – and more, including her name and where she grew up.

Business records filed with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission show that Wilson, who has previously said she was 29, was in fact born on March 2, 1980, making her 35 years old, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Wilson also fudged the truth about her name. The Australian Electoral Roll lists her real name as Melanie Elizabeth Bownds, though she later changed her last name to Wilson, as has been previously reported. Last year, however, she told The Australian Women’s Weekly that her real name was in fact Rebel, and that Melanie and Elizabeth were middle names she went by at school to avoid being teased.

Along with lying about her age, records showed that her birth name is actually Melanie Elizabeth Bownds — even though the Australian actress has claimed her real name is Rebel, and that Melanie and Elizabeth were just names she went by at school.

Instead of hiding from the spotlight, however, the hilarious actress took to Twitter to have her own little laugh at it! Good for her.

Wilson’s representatives did not immediately respond when contacted for comment.

Meanwhile, the actress recently stepped out to enjoy a New York Rangers game with comedian Mickey Gooch Jr. at Madison Square Garden, posting a number of photos on her various social media handles from the game of the pair rocking their matching jerseys. But it seems like this wasn’t just a friendly hangout.

Us Weekly reports the duo, who met through mutual friends, are actually dating. “They get along really well, they respect each other’s work,” a source tells them. “She’s been too busy to date for awhile, they’ve been texting often and they’ve been spending some time together in L.A. and New York.”

“You have to sacrifice relationships because you work, and now I travel all around the world,” she told Australia’s Elle magazine earlier this month when asked about her love life. “I’m constantly moving and constantly travelling and so it’s really hard to maintain a relationship in that kind of environment.”
