After TLC suspended (cancelled?) the Duggar family’s series, following news that eldest son Josh Duggar had molested four of his sisters, amongst others, during his teens, there was talk that Jill and sister Jessa would get their own show, centering on their marriages and their own growing families.
Well news from one of the sisters would make filming a reality show pretty difficult: Jill, 24, and husband, Derick Dillard, 26, announced they are moving overseas for a long-term mission trip. The couple, along with son Israel, will leave Arkansas in July for an undisclosed location, reports ET.
Apparently, God asked the couple to serve international.
“God has put a desire in our hearts to serve Him internationally for longer than the typical short-term mission trip,” Derick wrote on their site. “We were prepared for the possibility of it being years before our family would be able to make a move of that magnitude.”
Derick says that earlier this year, God “brought about an opportunity much earlier than either of us was expecting.” He says the move will “undoubtedly change the trajectory of [their] lives forever.”
“As I’m sure many of you fathers can understand, I (Derick) had a huge dilemma as the provider and protector of my little family,” he explains. “There were definitely more ‘unknowns’ with the international option. […] After much prayer and seeking Godly counsel, we realized that taking this opportunity and moving overseas in order to serve is the best option for our family. “
