Howie Mandel Apologizes for Bulimia Comment

Howie Mandel, who is a judge on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent”, made a joke during a live episode the other night that many viewers found offensive. The show had a contestant on named Steve Starr, also known as “The Regurgitator”, whose talent was to swallow objects as a whole then bring them back up. After watching “The Regurgitator’s” act, Mandel, 59-years-old then made a comment that he knew would probably not go over well. When the act was finished, Mandel commented by saying “This would probably come out wrong, but you, sir, make bulimia entertaining.”

According to the story on CBS News, Mandel apologized for his comment later in the live show. He apologized for making a comment on live television without first thinking about hurting anyone with his off-the-cuff remark. He said that he understands that bulimia is a mental illness and a serious eating disorder. Mandel said that he was in no way trying to make light of a serious condition. After apologizing on air during “America’s Got Talent”, Mandel also sent out a Tweet apologizing again. The Tweet he sent out read, “I am NOT perfect. I make mistakes. I sincerely apologize to everyone who was offended.”
