The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after actress Salma Hayek’s dog was found shot to death on her ranch.

Hayek said via Instagram that her dog was found shot to death on her ranch in Washington state.

Hayek said the 9-year-old dog named Mozart was found dead a week ago with “a shot close to his heart.”

“I am hoping that the Washington State authorities do justice to this wonderful dog whom in 9 years never bit or attacked anyone. He loved his territory and never strayed away…he was the most loving and loyal companion. He didn’t deserve a slow and painful death,” she said.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office told KING 5 that a report was made on Feb. 19. Hayek was in Los Angeles.

Deputy Lt. Cliff Ziesemer said a groundskeeper was riding a horse around Hayek’s property with two dogs. She went down a road and the dogs started barking and ran away.

The groundskeeper didn’t think anything of it because there are dogs on the other property, and this is typical. She turned around to go back to the house and both dogs followed. As they got closer to the house, one of the dogs started barking and headed down a trail.

At some point, the groundskeeper realized the dog hadn’t come back so she began searching and found the dog shot and killed on Hayek’s property.

A necropsy determined that a pellet from a pellet gun went between two ribs and nicked an artery. The dog slowly bled to death.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate.

I haven't posted for a week as I been mourning the death of my dog, Mozart who I personally delivered out of his mother's womb. He was found dead in my ranch last Friday with a shot close to his heart. I am hoping that the Washington State authorities do justice to this wonderful dog whom in 9 years never bit or attacked anyone. He loved his territory and never strayed away…he was the most loving and loyal companion. He didn't deserve a slow and painful death. #muerte #perro #justiciaporlosanimales
