FOX Renews “Gotham”

Fox has renewed its comic book series Gotham for Season 3, the network announced late Wednesday.

The news comes after the Batman prequel series, which stars Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue as DC Comics characters Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock, respectively, posted its lowest ratings of the season, with just 4 millions total viewers and a 1.3 rating in the 18-to-49 demographic.

According to Fox, the series, which is wildly inconsistent from week to week (and landed near the bottom of our most recent ranking of the best superhero/comic book series), is reportedly averaging 9 million viewers across multiple platforms in time-shifted viewing.

At this time, Fox has made no other decisions regarding the rest of its current lineup, so it’s possible the news of Gotham‘s renewal this week is the network’s way of drumming up interest in the series ahead of its latest guest arc featuring Paul Reubens. Best known for his Pee-Wee Herman character, Reubens will play Elijah Van Dahl, the father of Robin Lord Taylor’s Penguin. His first appearance is Monday, March 21 in “Wrath of the Villains: Mad Grey Dawn.”

Gotham airs Mondays at 8pm on Fox. Are you excited about this early renewal? Let us know in the comment section.
