New hope appears to be looming on the horizon for sleep apnea sufferers. Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition resulting from the actual secession of normal breathing for split second intervals during the night.
A new surgical procedure being pioneered at Mount Sinai Medical Center involves the extraction of tissue from the throat and/or repair of collapsed airways. Assisted by 3D imagery, a robotic arm will be maneuvered by the surgeon in the patient’s mouth to execute the procedure. Sleep apnea specialists believe this procedure could eliminate the need for breathing strips or usage of the CPA mask/machine system.
