Celebrate With Your Elders on Senior Citizens Day
There are many holidays that some may question the validity of such as “Talk Like A Pirate Day” and “National Waffle Day”. Some may question the purpose of those days. One of the days that family members can not deny the value of is August 21st though. That is Senior Citizens Day. It is a day to celebrate the knowledge, contributions and companionship of your elders in your family.
According to HolidayInsights.Com, in August 19, 1988, President Ronald Reagan issued Proclamation 5847 creating National Senior Citizens Day to be August 21.
There are many, many other “Senior Citizen Days” on various dates around the world. Many countries local communities and organizations have declared or held senior citizen days.
Many businesses have jumped on board to celebrate the holiday. Some restaurants and movie theaters around the country offer discounts for senior citizens on this day. Discounts can range from a free cup of coffee to a free meal. If you are celebrating with senior citizens, contact the businesses you will be visiting on this day and inquire about discounts.
Don’t forget those senior citizens without families. Take one in your neighborhood out to celebrate and make them feel special.
