Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – The state capitol is about to get a most unique statue sure to be a tourist draw: a statue of Biblical villain Lucifer aka the Son of Perdition aka the Devil aka Satan. Well, that is if the Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission approves their request to build the statue.

Lucien Greaves, spokesperson for the Satanic Temple, submitted two proposals for designs, each which would cost about $20,000 and easily rival the $10,000 Ten Commandments in grandeur. Greaves said the designs included “a pentagram, a satanic symbol, while another is meant to be an interactive display for children.”

“We believe that all monuments should be in good taste and consistent with community standards,” Greaves wrote in his letter to Oklahoma officials. “Our proposed monument, as an homage to the historic/literary Satan, will certainly abide by these guidelines.”

So what would the statue look like? It would feature a man with a goat head and two large horns emanating from his head. The figure would also have wings and the satanic pentagram behind him. Two children would be looking at him adoringly. The statue would be interactive in that visitors would be able to sit on Satan’s lap and meditate. It is hard to imagine a living entity with those characteristics that would invoke anything but fear in children. Nevertheless, the Satanic Temple of New York is serious about the proposed statue.

As for the Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission, they have announced that all applications for monuments on the state capitol are on hold pending the outcome of an ACLU challenge to a privately commissioned monument of the Biblical “Ten Commandments”. Even if the Christian monument survives the legal challenge, it is difficult to imagine this conservative state approving a monument to the entity referred to as the “Father of all lies”.
