The 99th Tour de France began yesterday in Leige, Beligum. The 3,500 kilometer race will criss-cross France, parts of Switzerland and enter both the Pyrenees and Alps over a three week period. The finale will be on the Champs-Elysees in Paris on July 22.
The 6.4 kilometer time trial was captured by Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland, who gets to wear the leader’s yellow jersey. Briton Bradley Wiggins for second, just seven seconds behind. 2011 Tour de France Champion Cadel Evans finished just three seconds behind Wiggins for third.
Sunday’s first leg will be 198 kilometers from Leige to Seraing.
