July 7th UFC Fight Results
At UFC 148 held on July 7, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., eleven men became winners over their competitors. In the main match the UFC light-heavyweight belt stayed with Anderson Silva, who was able to defeat Chael Sonnen early in the second round.
Sonnen was able to keep Anderson down throughout the first round, but “The Spider” turned things around in the second, stuffing a few takedowns while landing a few shots. Sonnen slipped whilst attempting a spinning back fist and Silva jumped all over him, landing a vicious knee to the chest before finishing him off with a salvo of punches.
“He’s a true champion, man,” Sonnen said. “He got me with a good shot. I was on the ground, he got me with a good knee and other than that, I’m going to have to look at the tape.”
Silva was also gracious in victory.
“I’d like you over to my house and we can barbecue,” Silva said.
Forrest Griffin took the win over Tito Ortiz, Cung Le was victor over Patrick Cote, Demian Maia won over Dong Hyun Kim, and Chad Mendes took out Cody McKenzie.
In the rest of the matches Mike Easton won over Ivan Menjivar, Melvin Guillard over Fabricio Camoes, Khabib Nurmagomedov over Gleison Tibau, Constantinos Philippou won over Riki Fukuda, Shane Roller took out John Alessio, and last but not least Rafaello Oliveira won over Yoislandy Izquierdo.
