Justin Gatlin Withdraws From Athletissma
Olympic sprinter Justin Gatlin has been forced to withdraw from Switzerland’s Athletissma this week due to illness. Gatlin took home the bronze medal for the 100 meter event in the 2012 London Olympics. He was preparing to compete against silver medalist Yohan Blake and his fourth place teammate Tyson Gay when he became ill.
Gatlin was reportedly treated for a fever and sever stomach pain in a hospital in Austria this week and has not recovered sufficiently to compete. He has decided to return to the United States for further treatment. Gatlin would like to have ended the season with another win, but will have to sit this one out.
The open slot in Thursday’s meet will be filled by Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt.
