Lolo Jones Causes Twitter Stir With Tweet To Eric LeGrand

Olympic sprinter Lolo Jones caused a stir on Twitter with a response to a tweet.

The original tweet, sent by paralyzed former college football player Eric LeGrand, challenged the Olympic medalist to a race, reports the Huffington Post.

Jones, who claimed to be unfamiliar with LeGrand, responded with a tweet meant to be a joke.

Jones (@lolojones) responded, “Get Checked for a concussion. Clearly, u’ve been hit in the head… Cos u arnt beating a track athlete.

Jones’ tweet implied LeGrand should be checked for a concussion. LeGrand was injured playing football at Rutgers University, leading to his paralysis.

Twiiter @finae25 sent Jones a tweet saying, “u know he’s a quadrapalegic now?”

Jones quickly went on the defence, tweeting, “No, dnt know. sry dont know every football player. He challenged me 2 a race & I responded.” and then later “Great I’m gonna get murdered for that tweet. When I had no clue who that dude was. Just responding to any athlete who challenges me to a race.”

LeGrand took the tweet in jest, as well as accepted Jones’ apology. He understood she was being playful believing LeGrand was a current football player.

Much of the uproar stemmed from Jones’ tweet to a football player immediately containing a concussion reference. The NFL and NCAA have worked over the past few years to reduce concussions in players.

Twitter users felt Jones’ was insensitive given how many current and former players suffered concussions.
