Polish billionaires Dominika and Sebastian Kulczyk bought the silver medal to help pay for a 3-year-old boy’s $126,000 eye surgery. Małachowski won the medal in discus.
“My silver medal is worth a lot more than a week ago,” Malachowski stated. “It is worth the health of of little Olek.”
He continued, “We were able to show that together we can do wonders. It is our great shared success.”
In a Facebook post, Malachowski writes, “In Rio I fought for the gold. Today I appeal to everyone – let’s fight together about something that is even more precious: the health of this fantastic boy.”
