Mugly: The World’s Ugliest Dog
It might seem mean to hold a contest for the world’s ugliest dog, but the mix breeds deserve a chance at fame too. 28 dogs were present for the show but none could surpass the beastliness of Mugly.
Mugly is a Chinese Crested who’s name is a mixture between the word “ugly,” and “mutt.”
The World’s Ugliest Dog annual contest was held in California, and Mugly was crowned with the title. Mugly is a dog with little hair, and few wispy whiskers that look out of place.
This Chinese Crested has a face that only a mother could love and his owner does love him very much.
According to the contest’s website, Mugly is a rescue dog from the United Kingdom and was “viciously attacked in a park by a group of thugs.”
Mugly is now a “therapy dog working with children,” according to the website.
“I couldn’t speak when they announced Mugly’s name. I didn’t know which way to look. I was shaking as much as the dog,” Mugly’s owner Bev Nicholson said in a news release.
Competing for fame, $1,000 and a year’s worth of dog cookies.
As the winner Mugly will receive $1,000 and a year’s worth of dog cookies.
This isn’t the first win for the beady eye pup. In 2005 he won the title of Britians Most Ugliest Dog.
Organizers say the competing dogs are judged for what they term their “natural ugliness in both pedigree and mutt classes.”
Chinese Crested pooches seem to be a shoe-in for the competition. Last year Yoda, a Chinese crested and Chihuahua mix took the top spot.
