A study published recently in The Journal of the American Medical Association discovered that a low-glycemic index (G.I.) diet is the best diet for losing weight and keeping it off. A low G.I. diet not only helps you shed pounds, it continues the accelerated calorie burning to help keep those pounds off.
A low-glycemic index diet includes foods that take longer to digest and therefore don’t cause large fluctuations in blood glucose levels. Foods with a low G.I. rating include fiber-rich, natural carbohydrates, such as fruits and nuts; lean proteins; healthy fats, such as olive oil and avocados; and fibrous vegetables and greens. Foods to avoid include starchy vegetables, highly refined grains, and sugar and fruit juices.
