Judge Marries Couple and Sends the Groom to Prison
Larry Allen Austin became a convicted felon and a married man at the same time with the help from the same judge who sent him to jail and officiated his nuptials, reports News OK.
Jerry D. Bass, Oklahoma State Judge, sentenced Austin to four years in prison for a weapons charge. Right after that, he married Austin to Dustie Dawn Trojack, his long time girlfriend and a father figure to her two children from a previous relationship.
The two children were in attendance at the brief ceremony.
Austin will actaully do his time in a federal prison because he violated federal parole for a previous weapons violation.
The only way the children could visit in Austin in prison is if he and Trojack got married.
Judge Bass said it is the first time he ever married a person and sent him to jail in the same day, though he has done both tasks separately many times.
‘It’s what we do as judges,’ he said. ‘We conduct legal business, and from time to time we conduct marriages.’
Mr. Austin’s “tuxedo” was the orange jumpsuit with mathcing slippers and white socks.
