Brazilian model chastized for hurricane photo shoot

A Brazilian fashion model is being lambasted for her part in a photo shoot in New York amidst the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy this week.

Nana Gouvea is pictured in the photos standing on destroyed cars and against a backdrop of downed trees. The 30-year-old model denies that the photo shoot was disrespectful in any way, and so does her husband, Carlos Keyes, the photographer behind the pictures posted on her Facebook page.

Gouvea said the criticism was nonsense, and that she was allowed to take photos of the destruction just as everyone else was.

The model and Keyes actually live in Manhattan and were interviewed by Brazilian media earlier in the week.

The said the city was in a blackout, and that they had not left their apartment on the 43rd floor of a building since Sunday. A Facebook spoof page has also begun, depicting the model in various world disasters.
