People concerned about missing loved ones can call the Boston Mayor’s 24 hour constituent hotline on 617-635-4500 for information on individuals; people with information regarding the possible perpetrators of the attack on the Boston Marathon and a third bomb at John F. Kennedy Library can call the Boston Police tipline at 1-800-494-TIPS.
On the Internet, websites and social media have become important factors in tracing people difficult to contact within Boston. Google have produced a special version of their People Finder specifically for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. The Red Cross have also reported their Safe and Well website established to help families trace people during natural disasters will assist in tracing people in Boston.
Many officials and security experts are also warning those wishing to make donations to assist those injured and organizations involved in the disaster to be wary of possible Internet scams. People are warned to ignore social media calls for donations and instead contact organizations directly to make donations.
