Mother Jessica Arrendale Saves Her Baby’s Life
Jessica Arrendale was an Atlanta, Georgia mother who passed away in a courageous attempt to save her baby daughter’s life. Although she succeeded at saving her 6 month daughter Cobie’s life, she lost her own in the process.
On the evening of September 13th, Arrendale returned home after spending time with Antoine Davis, Cobie’s father. Davis turned violent upon the return. The ex-Marine was also severely drunk. Arrendale held baby Cobie and attempted to protect both of them using a baseball bat. Despite her efforts, Davis’ sheer strength won. He hit her numerous times using the bat, Jessica’s mother Teresa Ionniello told WSB Radio Friday
After desperately running away from Davis, Arrendale brought Cobie into the bathroom with her. She locked the door. Davis, however, took the door down using an assault rifle. He then shot the panicked mother through the head. While holding the baby, Arrendale contorted her body as a means of putting her on top of the toilet bowl. She covered the baby using her body.
“He shot her and they (police) don’t know how she was able to twist her body and fall literally in the opposite direction,” Ionniello told the station. Instead of falling onto the floor, Ionniello said her daughter fell over the toilet, dropping little Cobie into the bowl.
The baby was thought to have been hit with the bat beforehand. This is because young Cobie experienced head trauma after the incident.
After shooting Arrendale, Davis entered the baby’s room. In that room, he committed suicide by shooting himself.
Friends and family have set up a gofundme page to help offset the cost of the funeral and aid in the education of Arrendale’s children.
A memorial service for Arrendale will be held on Sunday in Powder Springs, Georgia.
