I think the PTO made the correct decision. They offer other events that the mom can attend. So, she doesn’t have a “Father” in her life, thousands of kids don’t. In that case, you ask a male relative or friend to participate, if there is not one, oh well, you cannot get everything you want in life and it’s time people started remembering that and teaching their children that there are disappointments they will have to face in life!
I understand the idea that we often seem to reward children for doing nothing, like the little league games where nobody wins or loses, but your view in this instance seems a little bit harsh to me. We have no idea why her Father is not in her life. Maybe he passed away and the family already knows about the “disappointments they will have to face in life!”
I for one missed many Father/Daughter events because I was deployed in the military. This girl is already missing out on enough things from not having a Father. Should we really add to her troubles just to meet policy? I understand the school has rules, but accommodations could have been made that allowed the mother to attend. It’s not like she’s getting a free trophy for doing nothing. It’s just a school dance.
Dylan, why do we need to accommodate every situation? The school system has mother-daughter events, so what do they do with the girls without moms? Why do we need to make everyone feel good? Why can’t little league teams win or lose? Because someone’s feelings will get hurt!
I feel sorry for these kids when they get out on their own, is society supposed to pay the bills, buy them a house, buy a car and drive them around? She can’t go to one event in her life, GET THE HELL OVER IT! Life is hard, grow up.
