North Carolina Woman Super Rich after Lottery Win

The mother of four children, one who is suffering from cerebral palsy, woke up one morning to find out that she was rich beyond her wildest dreams. That is because she was one of three winners in the Powerball lottery. The total amount she will receive after all taxes are taken out is estimated to be approximately $88 million.

The North Carolina woman said that she did not realize she was a jackpot winner until the morning after the drawing. She was ecstatic to find out the amazing news, but her children were a little off-put by her reaction. Marie Holmes is just 26-years-old and her first plans for the money is to tithe to her church and her favorite charities. The rest of the money will be used to help raise her children and travel.

Holmes’ is the biggest jackpot winner in the history of North Carolina. She told reporters that she is humbled by the experience of having so much money in such a short period of time. Ms. Holmes also stated that life has changed in the short two-week period since she found out. Security personnel are with her wherever she goes and she now has a financial adviser and an attorney to help her make decisions about the money. Many people who win lotteries spend the money so quickly that they run out in a very short time.

“I am humbled and grateful for the opportunities this has created for my family,” she said.

The winning numbers were: 11, 13, 25, 39, 54 and the Powerball 19. The odds of hitting the jackpot were 1 in 175 million.

There were two other winning Powerball tickets, as well. The first one was in Puerto Rico where the winner preferred to remain anonymous. The other ticket was sold in Texas; however, the winner has not come forth so far.

Holmes is the fourth winner from North Carolina.
