A college basketball player put the madness in March Madness this week when he said something he didn’t mean to say while his mic was hot.
Wisconsin Badgers basketball player Nigel Hayes had an awkward but extremely charming gaffe in the middle of a press conference on Wednesday, March 25.
The sophomore player, 20, was speaking to reporters with his teammates after the ballers beat the Oregon Ducks by a score of 72 to 65 in the latest round of the NCAA March Madness tournament. Pausing between questions, one attractive female reporter caught the athlete’s eye, distracting him from the press conference.
“God, she’s beautiful,” he whispered to Wisconsin’s Frank Kaminsky, after spotting 43-year-old Debra Bollman – a stenographer for ASAP Sports – in the crowd. Hayes soon realized that his hot microphone had picked up his observation.
“Did you hear that?” Hayes questioned, eyes wide. Once the reporters confirmed that they had, in fact, caught wind of the player’s admiration for the journalist, Hayes looked pained with embarrassment and immediately covered his face with his hands.
The woman’s daughter found some humor in the situation, writing on Twitter; ‘I’ve been working to get out there for years and my mom gets called beautiful by a basketball player and Extra is calling… like what?’
